Gingerbread and reindeer!

In our last week before Christmas my class made a gingerbread house and reindeer from handprints, and they are especially adorable, if I do say so myself!

Pumpkin patchin...

Last Thursday was First Thursday in Buda. The art project for the month was pumpkin art so Hannah and I, along with our young friend Loralei, set off to carve the perfect jack-o-lantern. Here is a step by step in case you want to make your own.

First you pick the perfect pumpkin. If you are 5 that means the one that calls to you. that does not mean it necessarily fits any of the grown up standards of a perfect pumpkin. (Peace dude signs are optional).

Next you cut off the top and take out the guts. If you are 5 this is the best part and takes a loooooong time.

And finally you carve the perfect face. And then you have Matilia the jack-o-lantern who you then insist sleep with you every night. If you are 5, that is!

Kid stuff: C is for Cat!

I love this project. The children really showed their personalities and how the think in this one. Each child was given an orange sheet of paper with a circle on it, a rectangle of black paper, a rectangle of pink paper, scissors, glue, a black marker, and googly eyes and told to make a cat. Check out these three very different cats!

My favorite! Shh, don't tell, I'm not supposed to have favorites!

Valentine's Day prep and a mystery

It was one of those, rare, unexpected, productive days. The little one was sick over the weekend so we skipped her dance class today and spent our entire day in the house. So much got done - dishes, dinner, laundry, and of course a little crafty-ness.

These hearts will turn in to H's Valentine's. Since she's technically in 2 classes we are actually making double. I have a small blister from all this cutting... H's contribution to this step was to volunteer to take 3 of the hearts I cut out and draw on them, play with them, and give them to her babies. Stay tuned to see what they become.

And this, um, this thing, this centipede fish type thing is my mystery project. My best guess is that it will be some sort of wrap - scarf, shawl, I'm not sure. However, it is indeed a mystery. Every week for a month we get a clue, so it may be a while till I know what it is. If you are interested the group is on Ravelry.

That's it for today. The other project I worked on today is my first Christmas 2011 gift, so I probably shouldn't post it, just in case anyone's looking!
